This variable is the number of months during the year where the beneficiary’s Medicaid level of care status code indicated that Inpatient psychiatric facility for individuals under age 21 care was required to meet a beneficiary's needs. Medicaid uses this information to determine Long-Term Services and Supports (LTSS) program eligibility
CCW calculates this variable using the DE Disability and Need Supplemental file; we count each month where the CARE_LVL_STUS_CD_MM = '002' (Inpatient psychiatric facility for individuals under age 21). Note that the care level status source variable from DE identifies five levels of care: hospital, inpatient psychiatric facility for individuals under age 21, nursing facility, intermediate care facility, or other type of facility. Each of these levels is included in MMLEADS. In addition, the MDCD_CARE_LEVEL_MOS variable is the total count of months during the year when any of these levels of care was indicated.
Values: 1-12, or null/missing (if no Medicaid enrollment or no care level status)
