Inpatient Rehab Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) is assessment data collected on all Medicare Part A fee-for-service patients who receive services under Part A from an inpatient rehabilitation unit or hospital. IRF-PAI data items address the physical, cognitive, functional, and psychosocial status of the IRF patients. The data collected for IRF-PAI is used for quality of care purposes and items were developed primarily for IRF prospective payment system (PPS). Researchers requesting IRF-PAI will need to complete the required documents for a RIF request and will also need to complete the IRF-PAI variable justification worksheet to justify the need for the requested variables.
