Why You Should Attend this Workshop
Medicare billing and payment systems directly impact what is observable in claims data and how to interpret the fields. This workshop will provide background for researchers interested in charges and payments.
Many of the workshop elements will be easier to assimilate by those with previous experience with the data. However, prior experience is not strictly necessary.
Educational Objectives
- Understand payment and charge variables in the Medicare Research Identifiable Files
- Understand the various Medicare payment systems and payment adjustments for alternative payment models
- Become familiar with the various methods of calculating cost of care
- Understand the benefits and limitations of using the Medicare cost reports for research
