Part D

The PY14 Risk Score Files includes six segments:  a base file, four files with outputs from Part C models and one for Part D model outputs. All files can be linked to other CCW files via the Bene_ID.

What does this file include? (variable highlights)

PY14 Base file:

The Pharmacy and Prescriber Characteristics Files

Date Recorded
Thursday, May 16, 2013

Due to encrypted pharmacy and prescriber identifiers in the PDE data, researcher may require additional information related to the dispensing pharmacy and the prescriber. This presentation reviews the Pharmacy and the Prescriber Characteristics files that are available to link to the PDE data. A brief overview of the sources of the data in each file and key variables in each file are discussed.

The Plan Characteristics File

Date Recorded
Thursday, May 16, 2013

The Plan Characteristics File contains information about plan type, benefit design, premium, cost-sharing, and service area of the Part D plans. This presentation reviews the four sub-files contained in the Plan Characteristics file. The sub-files discussed include the 1) Plan Benefit Base file; 2) the Premium file; 3) the Cost Sharing Tier file; and 4) the Service Area file. Usefulness of specific variables included in each file is reviewed.

Part D Event Cost Information

Date Recorded
Thursday, May 16, 2013

This presentation reviews the "cost" variables found in the Part D Event data. Researchers can determine the "point of sale" cost to the beneficiary. Other variables reviewed in this presentation include the gross drug cost, the patient pay amount, the low income subsidy amount, the other true out-of-pocket amount, patient liability reduction amount, and the covered and non-covered plan paid amounts.

Part D Event Derived Variables

Date Recorded
Thursday, May 16, 2013

This presentation provides an overview of the derived variables found in the PDE data. Why derived variables are created, how the variables are created, and by whom is discussed. The derived variables include the gross drug cost, the benefit phase of the prescription drug record, and the utilization management variables.
